Home Invasions may be on the rise so it’s a good idea that we follow good home security protection tips.  It is way too easy to become complacent about our home security -  especially if there has been no recent crime in our  neighborhoods.  You may say to yourself that you feel safe - that you are away from the high crime element in the city, but that situation could change in a split second.

I live in a very nice subdivision outside of a medium size city.  People tend to leave their garage doors open a good part of the day, and I would imagine they leave entry doors unlocked as well.  This is definately a NO-NO!  In nicer neighborhoods where crime is not real prevalent, it would be so easy for thugs or violent criminals to simply commit day or night burglaries or home invasions right while people are home.   Most homeowners aren’t prepared for this and just don’t think it will ever happen to them.

First of all the majority of people do not have security systems in their home.  In our society today, if you don’t have a security system in your home—–WHY?  They are so cost effective.  Plus they give you a prewarning to any type of intrusion - you’ll know of a break in immediately if you are home.  If not, the police will be notified right away and send someone to your home.

Crime has continued to grow in the 20+ years that I was in the home alarm industry.  I saw many homes that had been busted into and heard tons of stores about burglaries, home invasions, attacks, and more.  Because it is not getting any better, and the police or local authorities can’t be everywhere, we all need to be proactive and protect our home and family against these type of crimes.

For less than $500 or thereabouts you can have a good quality level of protection for your home.  If you travel and leave your wife home with children, you owe it to them to ensure they are protected.  Call a reputable alarm company and find out what would be the best protection coverage for your home.

The peace of mind a good, solid security company provides is well worth any price you’re going to pay.  Especially if it means your family is safe 24/7.

Here is a story about a recent home invasion where an elderly lady was beaten with a hammer right in her home.  This ought to make you get a security system for your family tomorrow.

SOUTH BEND — A brutal attack left a South Bend woman in the hospital in critical condition. Police say 84-year-old Mary Kovach was attacked with a hammer Monday night in her home in the 1600-block of Indiana Avenue.

Police have arrested two men in connection with the case. They say the motive was robbery — her home had been burglarized and her car stolen.

Kovach’s family found her in her home late Monday night. They came to the home to check on her after not being able to reach her by telephone.

Neighbors say they can’t believe this has happened to a woman they all describe as very friendly.

"Very quiet, I mean nothing ever happens on this street,” said neighbor Bobby Foster. “Everybody sticks to themselves, you don’t hear of any trouble, nothing. This is shocking."

"A lot of people walk around here, it’s pretty family oriented, you see a lot of kids out. Nothing really bad usually happens around here,” said neighbor Ken Rustman. “[I’m] pretty shocked, kind of freaked out, sad that it happened to her. Like I said, she was a nice lady."

Police located Kovach’s stolen vehicle, and after a brief chase, arrested the driver and his passenger.

Leo Holmes, 52, was arrested on preliminary charges of burglary, aggravated assault and auto theft. His passenger, 41-year-old Steve Mester, was arrested for false informing after giving police a different name, and for having outstanding warrants.

The investigation led police to a home on South Michigan Street, where they recovered some of the property stolen from Kovach’s home.

Police say Kovach knew Holmes — he had done some work for her around her home.

Kovach remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Protect your home and family now!
